THE SALON

EST. 2018 by Paul & Cat

Our continued focus on sustainability is deeply interwoven throughout everything we do. Like a generational quilt, each part of the salon contributes to it and is informed by it. By focusing on sustainability, we’ve continued to evolve our space, reduce our carbon footprint, and create a welcoming and enlivening environment for our community.

  • Each year, our relationship with Sustainable Salons Australia (SSA) continues to evolve. SSA is a company that has turned recycling waste into a sustainable artform.

Ninety-five percent of our salon’s waste (plastic, metals, hair, paper, chemical waste) is collected by SSA on a fortnightly basis. They then turn this waste into reusable products (hair is turned into wigs, compost, or used as a “hair boom” to soak up oil spills), with all profits going to OzHarvest.

  • All our hair care is certified organic, and we remain committed to using only the cleanest and most sustainable products on the market. For this reason, we’ve partnered with Organic Way — a product line based out of Bologna, Italy.

Organic Way uses only the highest quality biodynamic oils within their products, with most ingredients grown on a biodynamic farm in Tuscany. Organic Way uses only glass and recycled aluminium for its packaging, so we created a refill station, providing clients with 20% off when they top up their shampoo and conditioner at the salon.

  • We offer a 10% discount on all services when arriving to your appointment by ‘human powered transport’ (on foot/ skateboard/bike).

  • George and Ivy is a Klopper building. Brian worked with a signature palette of recycled bricks, limestone, and steel girders.

Our building is made from 80% recycled materials (something we deliberately sought).

Our interiors have been designed using vintage and reclaimed furniture — a well-loved Chesterfield lounge by the entrance, an old architect’s drafting table as our ‘front desk’, and our salon basin has been fashioned out of a 1950s concrete laundry trough.

  • We installed solar panels at the beginning of 2022, which means we have now reduce our power usage by around 60%.

We’re officially Partnered with Carbon Neutral Australia - allowing us to be carbon negative — meaning, we make more energy than we consume (through planting alot of trees).

  • We offer a refill station for our Organic Way shampoo/conditioners with 20% discount and 5% discount old package return.

All of the loose leaf tea and coffee we serve is disposed of in our worm farm.

No plastic fittings and only LED lights throughout the salon.

All of our tea, coffee and detergents are only purchased from a bulk food store.

Who Gives A Crap toilet paper (recycled paper) - they donate 50% of profits to charities.

    Books not magazines.

Our small plastics are donated to Margaret River Plastics.

“EVERYTHING WE DO IS ABOUT REDUCING OUR FOOTPRINT & REUSING WHAT WE HAVE IN A HIGHLY STYLISED, HIGHLY EFFICIENT WAY.”
